Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does all my money go directly to this dedicated focus?

Yes, rest assured all fund raised go directly to the Shades of Pink key focus and all donations $2 and over are tax deductible.

Q. What was the selected focus for the 2017 Shades of Pink Lunch?

In 2017, we focused on raising funds to go directly towards funding an Allied Health Clinician. This project aims to benefit people who attend the Eastern Health Breast and Cancer Centre from the time of diagnosis through to survivorship care/ palliative care, which commenced after the Breast and Cancer Centre officially opened in May 2018.

Q. What is supportive care and allied health?

Each patient will have a unique experience of cancer, which may include a number of challenges when dealing with a cancer diagnosis and/or the side effects of treatment, including fatigue, pain, weight gain, anxiety/depression, fear of cancer recurrence, grief and loss, and family and interpersonal issues - particularly those related to women with young children and those who live alone or are socially isolated.

The Allied Health Clinician will ensure early identification and appropriate management of these additional needs/concerns. We believe this will significantly improve a woman’s tolerance of treatment, overall health status and quality of life.

With the increasing incidence of cancer in our community, Eastern Health is committed to the provision of supportive care and allied health support, to people diagnosed with breast cancer.

Supportive care and allied health support may include:
• Dietetics
• Occupational therapy
• Palliative care
• Speech pathology
• Physiotherapy
• Programs such as Look Good Feel Better and Living with Cancer
• Psychology
• Social work
• Specialist oncology nursing

Q. What is the selected focus for the 2018 Shades of Pink Lunch?

This year we are raising funds to go directly towards purchasing a 3D mammogram machine to be located at Maroondah Hospital.

3D testing is world-proven technology that can detect up to 40% more cancers than 2D.

Q. How does Shades of Pink decide where the money is donated to?

At the beginning of each year, Shades of Pink meet with the Eastern Health Foundation to discuss where the upcoming luncheon funds would be beneficial to the Breast and Cancer Centre. Liaising with Doctors, professors and all involved with the centre, we have the opportunity first hand to see what the best option would be to benefit the patients attending the centre.
